"Peppy" - Tests

These are Photoshop tests for "Peppy's Day Out".
Another test. Have been very much into the works of Bruno Aveillan lately.
Not very sure about the results though.... I just don't want to overdo them...

And another test. This is a view from inside the Submarine - the gang's first sighting of the island.

"Peppy's Day Out"

Recently watched Godard's "Pierrot Le Fou". Completely inspired!!! luv how he uses three basic primaries as a palette for the entire film- very Mondrian, how very post-modernist of him! Anna Karina is gorgeous in the film, simply divine!! Perhaps not anymore now....
So...finally! finally!! inspired to write a new pet project called "Peppy's Day Out". This is just a little sneaky preview as to how the direction of the project will be going....
The story is very much inspired by "Pierrot Le Fou" (duh!), and also the movie "Bandits" and the 60s and rock n roll.....whohoooo!!!
Plenty more coming up.

Patricia Wood's "LOTT3RY" - Holsted Set Design + Color/ Mood

I don't know what happened, but these past couple of days....I just suddenly had an urge to paint and draw again!!! Any aspiring artists out there would understand if I say that these moments are indeed very rare at times.....
After 2 idle months, I'm more than happy to be back drawing and painting again.

"The Mysterious Affair at Styles"

Ok, I have to admit I have been obsessed with Mary Blair lately. I just recently bought her book and I was completely "blaired- out"!!
The following is a try-out piece I did (trying for the art and flair of Mary Blair)
It took me a while....but experimenting the color schemes was fun FUN FUN!!!
The story behind "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" is about the murder of a rich widow and it's a whodunit story about which of her family members did it for their inheritance.

"Patricia Wood's LOTT3RY"- Storybeats

The project "LOTT3RY" is based on the novel "Lottery" by Patricia Woods. It's a beautiful story about a 31- year- old man with an IQ of 76 who won 12 million dollars in the Washington State Lottery. The story offers a wide range of design possibilities- from comedy to drama to tragedy to thriller....it really has everything!
Note: This project is not affiliated to Patricia Woods. This is only a student project, not an actual film.
"Patricia Wood's LOTT3RY"- Thumbnails

These thumbnails are rough "idea sketches" for my latest project "LOTT3RY". They're not exactly the final layouts for the film, but these thumbnails are done to open up the mind to the many design possibilities for the story of the film. They're semi- abstract and not exactly understandable, but they're fun and resourceful!

"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"- Shape and Tonal Script
The overall shape and tonal script starts and ends the same way. While in the beginning, order prevails over the life of Dr. Jekyll, in the end- order is disturbed by disorder (Sir Danver's blood) . After killing Sir Danvers, Hyde steps over his blood, leaving foot trails on the floor. This greatly symbolizes the death of Sir Danver's which represents the death of Jekyll, as the birth- point for Hyde.
(for more inquiries on the project, please contact me)
"Jekyll and Hyde" - thumbnails
Based largely on the classic novel, the concept behind the look is that of duality (twos) Everything is designed in twos. The element of twos is subtly stitched into everything from props to characters to even the editing of the scene.

These are the developments of "Madam Oh No".
Madam Oh No is the butcher's wife who butchered her husband and sells off his meat.
Her personality is one which is misleadingly bad. You get the sense that she is capable of doing the most evil of things, but something about her makes the audience sympathize with her and the reasons of her crime.
Quite a challenge to design such a character. Her personality is very much referenced from Judi Dench in "Notes on a Scandal". Her look is inspired from a rice-cooker.
